Children and Youth Sailing Summer 2024

The Marco Island Yacht Club together with the Marco Island Community Sailing Center is proud to bring sailing instruction for children and youth back to Marco Island! Whether you enroll your own children or visiting grandchildren or other guests, you will be giving them one of life's best lessons and pleasures.

Beginner Sailing Classes 2024

Beginner classes are offered in seven weekly sessions of instruction starting June 3rd and ending the week of August 5th. Sign up for one week or several. All classes are Monday through Friday.

Ages: 7-12 years

Time: 9:00 am - Noon

Location: Marco Island Yacht Club Beach 1400 N. Collier Blvd.

Instructors: Level 1 US Sailing Certified

Course Description:

This program will focus on developing basic boat handling skills, learning nautical terms for sailing, rigging and de-rigging the sailboat.

Students will learn the safety position, tacking and jibing and how to get out of irons. They will be taught the basic knots used in sailing. Upon completion, all students should feel comfortable sailing alone. This program will be conducted in the Optimist Pram.

Cost: $220 per week

Intermediate Sailing Classes 2023

Intermediate classes are offered in seven weekly sessions of instruction Monday through Friday, starting June 3rd and ending the week of August 5th. Sign up for one week or several.

Ages: Completion of Beginner Class or Sailing Experience

Time: Afternoons, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Location: Marco Island Yacht Club Beach 1400 N. Collier Blvd.

Instructors: Level 1 US Sailing Certified

Course Description:

The focus is for students to learn and master all the points of sail. They will learn the basic right of way rules that apply to all boating. They will understand the difference between true wind and apparent wind along with the effects of tide and current. Students will develop an understanding of the science of sailing and how sails and foils work together. All students will advance their boat handling skills.

Cost: $220 per week

Completion of the Beginner Program is required to register.

Pre-Registration is required for all sailing classes.
