Boating Courses

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Marco Island Sail and Power Squadron (now rebranded as America's Boating Club) offer many excellent classroom and online courses on a variety of boating topics, and while the classroom courses have been temporarily suspended due to the Corona Virus, several videos and online courses are still available.  In the meantime, please familiarize yourself with these invaluable organizations by downloading pdfs from the links below: When courses are available, information is provided at the above links regarding cost, dates, locations and how to register.

Educational Topics and Seminars

You can download pdfs for the topics below:

  • Safety at Sea (A recommended list of “must have” safety equipment when on the water, and essentials for any ditch bag. Also, proper use of and examples of how to use a marine radio during emergencies.)
  • Float Plan (What is it and what should be included)

Vessel Inspections

Courtesy vessel inspections are provided by the Power Squadron and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. They cover US Coast Guard required safety equipment and award decals for successful inspections.  Currently there are two active inspectors. Contact Rudy Laandward of the Power Squadron at 239-389-4444, or John Moyer of the Coast Guard Auxiliary at 239-248-7078 to schedule an inspection.  NOTE:  All boaters traveling with a MIYC sponsored event are required to have and display this decal.
